Mission Trip

In the summer of this year, some of the students of the junior high will be going to Rutland, Vermont for a mission trip. They will be staying in Vermont from Sunday through Friday in July. On this mission trip, the students will be doing many things to help others. They don’t have an exact layout of what they will be doing; they will have to wait till they get there and see. Although they have to wait, some of the activities may include helping out with community gardens, food banks, nursing homes, and soup kitchens. They do lots of hard work during the day, but, later in the evening they do fun activities and have time to relax. The mission trip can be a lot of hard work, but it is also very fun.

Nature's Classroom

This year the 7th grade is going to Natures Classroom. We interviewed Mrs. R to find out what it was like. Nature’s Classroom is located in Lakeside, Ct. she’s says they do many things that you wouldn’t do in a normal classroom. She says the most fun about it is she enjoys being with her students the entire week. The educational purpose is to be outside of the classroom and be with nature. She says the staff there is crazy just like her, she also says they know their nature material very well.  She says the children enjoy it so much that they don’t want to go home.

Willy Wonka Jr.

On May 3th and 4th the St. James Drama Club will be performing the play Willy Wonka Jr. Willy Wonka Jr. is a musical about a poor girl named Charlie (Abby Ligas). Charlie and 4 other children get a once in a lifetime chance to go into the wonderful chocolate factory of Ms. Willy Wonka (Maddie McBride) by winning a golden ticket hidden among 5 Wonka Bars. The prize for all golden ticket winners is a lifetime supply of Wonka’s chocolate.

5th and 6th Grade Power Points

The 5th and 6th graders took a field trip to the Bronx zoo on October 16th, 2013.  They got to pick any animal from the zoo and do a PowerPoint presentation on it.  They are using Microsoft PowerPoint to do this. That is what they have been working on in their computer/technology class. They will present the power points to both their computer teacher, Mr. R, and their science teacher, Ms. Mikos. They are doing these projects as the educational part of their field trip.

Some finished students are now adding their narration to their power point presentations.  This will let them record their own voice so, when they present their projects, they will not have to talk.  The power point will talk for them.
